Champions Spalding Water Polo Club started the defence of the title in the Hertfordshire League Division One with a win and a draw.
Spalding romped to the title last season and they will be aiming to do the same again after a strong start to the brand new campaign.
Their first match was at home against Hertford on Tuesday, June 5 and they had an excellent 16-4 win.
Goals from Gareth Lord (3), Ed Martin (3), Matt Papworth (3), Nathan Henfrey (2), Phil James (2), Ben Marsters (2), Tom Marsters (1).
Two days later Spalding travelled to Milton Keynes and came away with a hard fought draw against tricky opposition.
Goals from Ed Martin (2), and one apiece from Ben and Tom Marsters sealed a point in the 4-4 draw.
The second match was against Bingham. The was a much more closely matched game with both teams fighting hard in the first half to end with 3 goals a piece. Spalding's stamina and fitness held out in the second half allowing them to take the second half and their second win ending the match 6 - 3.
The third and final match against Leander was all that stood between Spalding and the tournament win. Spalding took and early lead in this match and didn't hold back. With the win in sight the whole team was switched on and focussed, taking the win comfortably with a score of 13 - 6.
This was a fantastic day out for Spalding Water Polo club and to come home with the win makes it even more satisfying. The team played extremely well and was on point throughout the tournament. Thanks go out to Matlock water polo club for arranging this event. The team will be back later on in the year to take part in their next tournament.
